Chapter 2: “Renewed, God-like thinking is vital necessity to a successful Christian life”
Our thoughts play a major role in our walk with Christ whether they be negative ones or positive ones will determine what we will do. Our goal as Christians is to always want to do what’s satisfying and pleasing to our Father and not out of our own selfish desires.
If we look in our Bibles we will see: Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. Romans 8:5 (NIV)
We are also told: So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to—the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires. Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God’s likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and Holy. Ephesians 4:22-24 (GNT)
In order for us to turn our negative thoughts into positive ones we need to take whatever negative thoughts we have and replace it with God’s truth. For example let’s say your always thinking your ugly, say to yourself what does God say about me? Look up Bible verses on beauty: I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made.Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well. Psalm 139:14 (HCSB)
Whatever it is you are thinking whether it be negative thoughts, what God expects from you, or what’s right or wrong always look to God’s Word to guide you. If you line up your thoughts with God’s Word then you will be able to discern what God wants from you. By prayer we can ask God for His help to overcome any thought or situation. Remember this is not done in our power but the Lords power.
Joyce Myers tell us in her book: “We need to be determine, be determine in the Holy Spirit, not in the effort of our own flesh. We need to seek His help and lean on Him. We can’t do it alone.”
However, the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told you. John 14:26 (GW)
Like Joyce Myers tells us in her book that it’s imperative that we get more “serious about thinking about what we are thinking about, and choosing our thoughts carefully.”
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he Proverbs 23:7 (AMP)
The Spirit versus the Flesh
16 I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.17 For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious:sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit.26 We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:16-25 (HSCB)
Remember what Joyce Myers tell us: “The same is true in our lives. Thoughts bear fruit. Think good thoughts and the fruits in your life will be good. Think bad thoughts, and the fruit in your life will be bad.”
Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. Matthew 12:33 (HSCB)
What fruits are on your tree?
