Today as millions are getting ready to celebrate Valentine’s day let’s not forget our first love:
Our Father and what He did for us through His Son.
Whom do I have in heaven but You? And with You, I lack nothing on earth. My mind and body may fail; but God is the rock for my mind and my portion forever.
Those who are far from You will perish; You destroy all who adulterously leave You. But for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made Adonai Elohim my refuge, so that I can tell of all your works. Psalm 73:25-28
God is very adamant about Him being our first love and our only love:
because you are not to bow down to any other god; since Adonai — whose very name is Jealous — is a jealous God. Exodus 34:14
And if we are not very careful there are many things that can become our gods like: our very own children, our husbands, entertainment, our friends, our loved ones and on and on it could go.
Now God has clearly commanded in His Word:
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth, so that you have a sincere love for your brothers, love each other deeply, with all your heart. 1 Peter 1:22
If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar. For if a person does not love his brother, whom he has seen, then he cannot love God, whom he has not seen. Yes, this is the command we have from Him: whoever loves God must love his brother too. 1 John 4: 20-21
Beloved friends, let us love one another; because love is from God; and everyone who loves has God as his Father and knows God. Those who do not love, do not know God; because God is love. Here is how God showed his love among us: God sent his only Son into the world, so that through him we might have life. Here is what love is: not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the kapparah for our sin. 1 john 4:7-10
But God demonstrates His own love for us in that the Messiah died on our behalf while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8
Yes we are to love one another deeply but our love for each other should never take first place over God. He and only He should always be our first love.
As we go about our day today let us not forget about our first love: Our Farther.
Not only on this day but on every day we should always remember to:
He told him,”You are to love Adonai your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” This is the greatest and most important mitzvah. And a second is similar to it, ‘You are to love your neighbor as yourself. Matthews 22:37-39
God Bless to all my brothers and sisters in Christ.
