The Purpose Driven Life
By: Rick Warren
What On Earth Am I Here For?
Day One: Thinking about My Purpose
Point To Ponder: It’s not about me…..
When I stop to ponder if it’s not all about me then who is it all about? If life is not all about me and my pain, why I am here then? What purpose do I have in this life? Because all I have I known since the time I can remember as a child is pain and suffering. It’s what became my whole goal and purpose in life, to not feel any more pain, suffering and to find unconditional love. This is what has been keeping me motivated to find some other meaning in life besides the pain and suffering that I have become so acquainted with. Somewhere deep down inside I knew there had to be more to life than just trying to survive. That there had to be purpose for me and a reason for me to be on this earth, but I couldn’t quiet grasp just what that purpose was. That was until I meet Jesus Christ, and my life has taken on a whole another meaning for me. I have come to known about a love between a Father and Son and for His Children that has totally left me awe-struck. I have come to know a God who was willing to let His own Son be born into this world who would willingly sacrifice His life for us sinners so we may have eternal life with Them. They both had a purpose and goal and saw it through till the very end that left Them not with a burden as one may think, but with a great joy. They both gave up something in order for His children to have a purpose not only in this life but eternally to. How? Is the question I’m left to ask? The answer as simple as it may sound was because of Their unconditional love for Us. It was because of Their unconditional love for Their creation that They had created from the beginning of time, that They couldn’t just leave us to perish. It was because of Their unconditional love for Us that became their whole purpose to save us no matter what it may have cost Them! It just amazes me when your purpose in life is driven by an unconditional love instead of a selfish attitude, the things you will be willing to do no matter what it may cost you. Your whole outlook on life, your purpose and your goals seem to become absolute. When you stop thinking of yourself and really ponder on what God and Jesus Christ really did for us sinners, then your focus becomes more on what can you do to please the Lord than yourself. You will never truly understand your purpose on this earth if you’re always carrying around a selfish attitude. It’s only when you’re willing to let go of self and cling onto Jesus Christ that you will truly be able to grasp why you’re really here and truly see God’s purpose for you. As hard as it may be for you to grasp, but we are here to be a sacrifice to one another and to love one another unconditionally, just as God and Jesus Christ did for us. And we are to be His Light to others who are still lost and bring them to come to know our Lord Savior Jesus Christ, this is our whole purpose in life.
Verse To Remember……
Colossians 1:16 For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him.
